Shopping at Bakery Square

January 19th, 2012

I really don’t like posting two of the same subjects back-to-back, but I am running out of photos to post. Probably the main reason I haven’t been posting much lately. I haven’t had the opportunity to get out and shoot. I do have a few things in mind though. Be patient! As much as I wish the world around me revolved around photography, it doesn’t! This is another one from Bakery Square. Taken on a warm Saturday in the fall. Shortly before I took this, I was stopped by the security guards asking who I was with. Luckily, I was shooting for the developer and had his name to rattle off to the security guard or I wouldn’t have captured this photo.

We just had another snowfall here in Pittsburgh today. I am hoping it presents itself with a few good opportunities for photographs. We shall see! Stay tuned!

Eerie Night

January 5th, 2012

I took this a few months back on a warm September evening. I did a little project for the developer of this property. He wanted me to capture some shots off of the balcony of the hotel. So after I sneakily walked by the reception desk, I went out the balcony on two different occasions. I was never asked by anyone why I was up there, and I clearly wasn’t staying at the hotel. It was kind of nice not being bothered for once about tripods. So here is what I came up with while shooting on the balcony.

Secret Balcony

November 2nd, 2011

This was a series that I shot for the developers of Walnut Capital to use for an advertising campaign. One of them saw a previous shot I had taken of Bakery Square and wanted me to shoot more for him using HDR. It was pretty cool working on the project. Hopefully, I’ll see some of my photos at bus stops or around the city.

I didn’t want the people at the hotel lobby desk to see me come in with a tripod, so I quickly ran by the desk when they weren’t looking to shoot off of this balcony. Luckily, no one came out to bother me and got the opportunity to shoot a people-free HDR on the balcony. I came back another night to this location to get some different cloud formations. I’ll share those at a later date.

Coffee Anyone?

October 13th, 2011

A few weeks back, I was asked by the developer of Bakery Square to take a few more photos of Bakery Square for him. I took quite a few photos and pitched them to him. Here is one of the “outtakes” that was submitted. This is the Coffee Tree, a popular coffee chain in the Pittsburgh area. I have never had their coffee, despite how many trips I have made to this location in the past month. I have a few more photos from this location to come, so stay tuned!

Elevator Lobby

September 13th, 2011

Something a bit different here. I went up to the top floor of the parking garage to see if there was anything interesting to photograph and found nothing. While waiting for the elevator on the way back down, I snapped this just for the heck of it. I like the grungy/futuristic look of the lobby here. I have always like shooting parking garages. It is funny when someone sees you photographing one as well. They give you a really funny look like, “what the hell could he POSSIBLY be taking a picture of?” When I apply the final HDR touches and show people, they go, “wow, that looks great! I would have never thought of photographing that!” And that’s why I shoot parking garages.

Bakery Square

August 31st, 2011

Just outside of Squirrel Hill, I drive past this almost everyday. It has been on my list of places to shoot for quite some time now and I finally made it over last week. When I arrived here for the first time, I was shocked at how nice it was back in this little hidden nook. This shopping plaza is still empty and loads of store front locations are going to open up here soon. I am hoping that a neat restaurant opens here for more excuses to come back. Google resides on the top floor of the tall building on the right. I have seen pictures of their offices inside. It looks like a really fun place to work. Hammocks in the break room, roof top terrace, pool tables and TV’s in the lounge, these are all perks for working at Google, Pittsburgh. Sounds like a fun place to work!

Park

August 29th, 2011

I took this a few minutes away from my girlfriend’s house. This is a new shopping plaza/hangout added to Pittsburgh. It was built around an old Nabisco factory where Google Pittsburgh resides. They finished building this area not too long ago and I have been wanting to shoot this location for some time now. Finally, I got a chance to go over there the other night and check it out. It really offers some awesome photo opportunities.

This particular photo is around back at the entrance of the garage. We happened to be walking back to the car when I turned the opposite direction of my car to see what was around the corner and this is what I found.
