Grand Staircase

December 13th, 2011

You gotta love free days at the museum! I am certainly not going to pass up an opportunity to visit a place that is free for a day when it normally charges $15.00 a person. My girlfriend and I went here on Saturday for free admission day. We almost didn’t go thinking it would be too crowded. Surprisingly, it wasn’t that bad.
I find it extremely difficult to capture an HDR in the museum. Getting that last exposure, even at ISO 800 poses some difficulty for sharpness. I managed to find a ledge to prop my camera on in order capture this HDR at the top of the staircase near one of the entrances.

Marble Staircase

Not really much to say with this post. Just more from the Carnegie Museum of Natural History. I really liked the lighting coming down the steps and quickly grabbed 3 shots before people came up/down it. Still more rain in Pittsburgh. Maybe one day I will get out shooting…

Marble Staircase of the Natural History Museum

April 24th, 2011

These past couple weeks have been awful for photography in Pittsburgh. The rain hasn’t let up. It seems as if there is an eternal rain cloud over the city and surrounding neighborhoods. Hopefully it will let up here soon. Friday was especially crappy, and I had the day off for Good Friday, so Jacquie and I decided to head over to the Carnegie Museum of Natural History. It was pretty crowded that day but still enjoyable. The architecture is spectacular in the museum. I wish that I could have had a tripod with me, but the D7000 does an awesome job of noise control at higher ISO’s, so I was still able to capture some cool shots.

Carnegie Museum of Natural History

November 8th, 2010

I’m pretty sure the photography Gods hate me. Every time I get a chance to do some shooting, the skies are perfectly blue, not a cloud in sight. I shot this last week when walking about through Oakland. It has always been on my list of places to shoot. This is either a 7 or 9 exposure HDR, I can’t remember (I’m too lazy to open Lightroom to check because Conan premieres in 5 min!)
