Pittsburgh Magazine Scoop

August 30th, 2011

A few months ago, I had mentioned that another photo would be appearing in Pittsburgh Magazine. I have acquired the high resolution file of that page to share with you all. This was an older photo that I had taken but fit the bill for what the art director was looking for. He emailed me back in June asking me for a dark picture of the PPG building (pictured) for an article about the upcoming Batman movie being filmed here. This was just about the only photo I had “dark” enough of The PPG building and happened to work for the article. Thanks for stopping!

Golden Quill Award

June 19th, 2011

My award came on Friday! The Magazine got to keep the original plaque from the awards ceremony but the art director was kind enough to order a second plaque for me to keep. It was very thoughtful of him to do so! Just thought I would share it with all of you.

Relaxing At Silky’s

November 23rd, 2010

This was another shot that appeared in Pittsburgh Magazine’s City Guide over the summer. I had a blast going around taking photos of this place. It really is a great place for sunset shots in Pittsburgh… A hidden gem. I didn’t process many of the shots from up on the deck because of that neon blue light in the right hand corner made for some problems when running it through HDR.

The Unfloatable Houseboat

August 28th, 2010

Another photo that appeared in Pittsburgh Magazine’s City Guide, this isn’t my favorite photo. In fact, I wasn’t going to post it. The art director needed a photo of a houseboat for the article. I drove down to this marina to get some shots of houseboats only to get hollered at by the manager. According to her, I wasn’t allowed to cross the yellow line on the bike path. So as she carefully watched, I took these three exposures of the only houseboat I could get close enough to, from behind the yellow line on the bike path. Ferry From The Ball Game

August 27th, 2010

This shot didn’t appear in the same article as the others but was thrown in towards the back of the magazine. I shot this the same night as the previous Gateway Clipper Shot a few posts back. They were acting as ferries taking people to and from the Pirate game that night. An Old, Lonely Speedboat

August 22nd, 2010

This was the hardest photo I have ever had to process. I probably re-processed it about 5 or 6 times before I got an outcome that I liked. It was particularly tricky because of the moving boat. This is a standard 3 exposure HDR. I then went back to process an HDR for the boat, water, and sky individually to then manually blend them in Photoshop. It was a learning process but I think it shows in the end. Click on the link under “pages” to view my article about Pittsburgh Magazine and some additional photos taken for the magazine.

Fort Duquesne Bridge

August 21st, 2010

Another shot used in Pittsburgh Magazine. This is one of my favorite shots from the magazine. It was taken on the North Shore on a hot, sunny day in June. Click on the link under “pages” to view my article about Pittsburgh Magazine and some additional photos taken for the magazine.

Hangin’ Out At Redfin’s

August 20th, 2010

I don’t know what it is about Pittsburgh and eating outside. As soon as spring hits and it’s 55+ degrees out, people flock to the outdoor section of restaurants. Maybe because we don’t get to eat outside 365 days a year like Florida. I don’t know, but I love it as well. This is Redfin Blues on Washington’s Landing along the Allegheny River…a nice little outdoor eatery. The Duchess Makes Her Rounds

August 17th, 2010

Also taken back in June for Pittsburgh Magazine. This was probably one of the longest days of shooting. I had my girlfriend with me and I had to capture one of the gateway clippers. I went everywhere looking for one. I tried zooming in with a telephoto from across the river. I tried going where they docked. And at the end of the night, as we were walking back to the car (on the other side of the river), I noticed “The Duchess” coming in and making her last round from the Pirate game (on the other side of the river) acting as a ferry. We ran across the bridge to capture this and I was SO glad we went! My girlfriend wasn’t too happy! She has been extremely supportive of my photography so I DO want to thank her for that. Underneath The 31st Street Bridge

August 16th, 2010

Another shot taken for Pittsburgh Magazine. This was shot a block down from the magazine’s office. It was a blast running all through Pittsburgh taking shots along the river. I got to see some incredible sunsets and different places I wouldn’t have thought of otherwise.
